When I’m Grown-Up…

I want to sit on an old, wood porch swing with you
wrapped up in a coccon of your love listening to your
heart swelling in your chest as you breathe–
feeling the warm, summer breeze on our smiling faces
watching the sun slowly make her way up the horizon
the sky awake with color, the darkest blue clouds
against a wave of pastels- pink, purple, orange, yellow
the clouds fade to light puffy, cotton candy the
bright yellow sun makes her home in the sky
we make eyes at one another like two high school
sweethearts over our coffee as we talk about the
children and listen to the birds perched in the tall, Oak
trees as they sing their sweet songs. I want to grow old with you
in this old country house. You and me. This old, rusty swing.

Dream Prompt-

Beach Nightmare.
© LC 2017

Sun scorched sand burns my
feet. We run toward crashing blue
waves. Noise. So loud! The
earth is mad! The sky
is darkened with black fighter
jets. The ground shakes. The
jets start firing toward people.
“I told you.” / It’s black.

From prompt– Write a poem based on a dream you had. Try to reproduce the sensations of the dream.

This is from a dream I had after we came home from our beach trip. In my dream, it was the same time next year. No, I don’t want to return to the beach again next year. But it’s not only the dream..

A Dream Within A Dream

A Dream Within A Dream by Edgar Allan Poe

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow–
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand–
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep–while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

An Old, Familiar Tune

An Old, Familiar Tune.

Like an old record
my mind spins. Skipping over
unimportant thoughts.
On Loop to remember-
my scatterbrained sea of
ideas, plans, hopes, and dreams.
The theme of my life–
forever repeating,
as these lyrics come alive.

New Dreams

New Dreams.  LC © 2016

To be strong, and weak–
I’ve known them both. Intimates.
Bedrooms a chamber
for tears– as they assault my
pillow– to mourn the death of
pipe dreams. They haunt me.
Worries are like static cling.
Life isn’t a fairy tale.
From the ashes of
old, tormenting dreams– new dreams
come alive. Waking
the warrior within me.
Fighting. Breathing life into
new dreams.

Don’t Panic

Some lyrics stick in your head no matter what you do!

Bones sinking like stones
All that we’ve fought for
Homes, places we’ve grown
All of us are done for
We live in a beautiful world
Yeah we do
Yeah we do
We live in a beautiful world
Bones sinking like stones
All that we’ve fought for
Homes, places we’ve grown
All of us are done for
We live in a beautiful world
Yeah we do
Yeah we do
We live in a beautiful world
We live in a beautiful world
Yeah we do
Yeah we do
We live in a beautiful world
Oh all that I know
There’s nothing here to run from
Cause here
Everybody here’s got somebody to lean on

My Guardian Angel

The stars shining bright–
I wish I could pull them all down.
To see you, again.
The heavens rest peacefully
atop the clouds–
with you gazing down
from the moon.
You whisper to me
in my dreams as
tears roll down my cheeks
“Don’t you dare be sad!
I traded the pain for a halo
and some angel wings!”

The Dream

The Dream…

Down a dark rabbit
hole I fell. Taken captive
by dreams of yesterday.
Intoxicated by your touch–
as if I cannot wake up.
You are a disease.
I wish to eradicate.
My heart is not yours.
You will not break me.
No, I will wake up.
Before you claim my soul.
